This might not look like heaven to you, but you'll have to believe me, it is! The Monte Christo is the perfect brunch dish. A delicious blend of ham, cheese, french toast, jam and powdered sugar. Who could ask for more?
This is how we made them:
Make a sandwich of a good quality sliced bread, stacked with thin slices of turkey, ham, and swiss cheese. Dip the whole sandwich into an egg batter (eggs & milk whisked together) and fry on the griddle with butter until toasty brown. Put in a warm oven until the cheese is really melty. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with strawberry or raspberry jam.

My best friend's mom would treat us to lunch on special occasions at the Capwell's restaurant and that is where I first had one of these. Of course that place is long gone and I almost never see these on the menu anywhere anymore. I don't know why it's never occurred to me to make them...sooooo good.
