First Pub of the Trip

This little village of Birlingham has no shop or post office, but they do have a local pub, The Swan, within easy walking distance, so of course, we headed down there after dinner last night. I was craving my first cider, when the bartender asked, "Clear, cloudy, or scrumpy?" I went with clear, the obvious choice. Scrumpy is a crude cider in a barrel. Amy had her first cider ever and was content to be out, legally drinking, as the minimum age is 18 and she just turned 20. Another year to wait in the States.

My brother-in-law played darts with the locals while we chatted with a friendly woman there. The traditional decor, large fireplace, little tables and chairs were accessorized by hops hanging in garlands all over the ceiling. As of July 1, smoking will no longer be allowed, which will make is even more pleasant than it already is.
