Chocolate Bars

In a small artsy kind of shop in Santa Cruz, I spied some chocolate bars with their wrappers replaced by decorative papers. I thought to myself, I could do that with my leftover scrapbooking pieces, and filed it away in the back of my brain.

At home, I created these candy bars for my nieces and nephew. I liked the results so much that I did a dark chocolate one for my mom too. It was simple to make the basic wrapper with paper and then I had fun layering on different things to make it more interesting: bits of coordinating papers, photos, glitter, vellum quotes, other ornamental embellishments.

The original idea was to use a variety of letter stickers to write their names across them. For another project, I had printed up some of my photos, but they were too small. Remarkably, they fit on the candy bars perfectly.

At JoAnn's I found a whole rack of scrapbooking accessories: packs of 4 matching papers, trims, ribbons, and decorations, for only $1 per pack. At scrapbooking stores these thing run at $3.99 each for a very small package.

This was an easy, fun project. I loved them so much, it was hard to give them away, but it wouldn’t be as gratifying if I kept them for myself.
