__________
The picture above was taken in my bathroom this morning. Last year I discovered these delicate pink blooms of flowering quince growing in the far reaches of my back garden in April. This year I cut a few branches to see if I could make them blossom early. This is the key: soak them over night in a warm bathtub. Then put them in a vase of water in a bright spot. The lightest place in my house is the master bathroom. So I put them in a corner on the floor. Within two days I had buds, it’s been about two weeks now and they are in bloom. All the experts said four to six weeks. But when I stopped to think about why this would happen, I realized that we have Heatizon radiant flooring and the warmth was forcing the blooms sooner. The sad part is that we are leaving and no one will be here to enjoy them.

I just read this as an actual headline from AP news, "Paris Hilton Looks Bored at Vienna Ball." We, as a society, have truly lost our way.

We will be leaving early in the morning for Mexico. Another thing to be grateful for. I will try to blog while I'm there, but I'm not quite sure how that will work out. Til then -- cheers!
